Wedding Dance

-

There are two types of people in the world, those that dance at weddings and those that don’t.” - Greg Conderacci

_

This weekend, I joined the latter when I traveled to Tennessee for a Wedding.

Everything was perfect: bride, groom, parents, weather, location, preacher, reception, and the music (at my age… not so much).

Why not dance? Well, I gave up dancing in my 20s. Like all those in the marrying years (22-30), I went to many weddings. At each, a middle aged man danced and I renewed my vow to never dance again.

About the same time, my mother, watching American Bandstand, expressed her utter disbelief in America’s youth.

“They do not touch each other?! How can you dance and not touch each other?”

She then began thrashing her arms and jerking her legs in a very good imitation of Rodney Dangerfield on the golf course in Caddyshack.

At age 50, I heard something that caused me to Taste the Food. At a seminar, Keith Bellows, Editor of National Geographic Traveler magazine, was speaking on the 100 Best Places to visit.

Because of his expensive travel, Keith was asked if he was scared to travel.

“No, I can’t be bothered with that. I am satisfied if I go.”

Well, if Keith is not scared to travel then I am not scared to dance.

And, there I was in Tennessee, arms flailing and legs jerking. Doing my best imitation of my mother imitating Rodney Dangerfield…

I am satisfied.

To Kristin and Kyle: A wonderful day! Together, may you dance at weddings for the rest of your lives.

How about you? What was your dancing adventure? Share a Story.
