My father getting air at age 84. He never forgot the feeling of being tossed and tossing me.
I finally figured it out - how to explain it. How to answer the question motorcyclist are often asked. The question so hard to answer – so hard to explain – so hard to make people understand.
The question:
Why do you ride a motorcycle?
Or less politely:
Why do you ride that dangerous thing.
Or just plain rude:
I know a guy that got killed on one of those. I would never ride one of those.
Note rude person - please put you answer in the form of a question…
The Answer:
Do you remember when you were a toddler and your father, uncle, grandfather, or brother threw you into the air?
Of course you do - the earth stood still, time froze, and you floated through space in zero gravity for an eternity. Well, at least 2 seconds until you landed into those outstretched arms.
Your flight was accompanied by a riotous mix of laughter, giggles on exhaling, and snorts when inhaling. Your joyous face was filled by two eyes as big as ping pong balls and a mouth so wide it could swallow them.
Do you remember as a father, uncle, grandfather or brother when you tossed your child, niece/nephew, grandchild, or sibling into the air?
Of course you do – the earth stood still, time froze, your joyous face was filled by two eyes as big as ping pong balls and a mouth so wide it could swallow them. You watched the happiest child on earth fly upwards and float down into your outstretched arms.
It feels the same when you twist the throttle.
That is why I ride.
How about you? Why do you ride? Share a story?
